In life, we are often faced with choices for which direction to move in life. Many times, we look at situations as “either ___ or ____” and we miss the other many choices available to us. In any given situation, we have a multitude of choices before us.
Sometimes we make a choice for change. We would like something different in our life and so we choose something we’ve not chosen before. Then we step back and look…and when the results of our choice are not immediately evident, when we cannot see the change we chose, we become frustrated.
We assume that because we cannot see the fruits of our labor right away, it didn’t work.
Or that we picked the wrong thing.
Or there’s something wrong with us.
Frustration sets in pretty quickly, doesn’t it?
A trajectory is the path described by an object moving in air or space under the influence of such forces as thrust, wind resistance, and gravity, esp the curved path of a projectile.
This can apply to our lives as well. Our lives have trajectory.
And whenever we choose something different from what we’ve chosen before, our lives take on a new trajectory.
Look at this diagram as a life’s trajectory, with someone at the center point and the arrow pointing straight up as their current path. If in this moment, they make a small change in their life’s choices, the impact in 1 year (first circle) is pretty small. But if you go out 5 years (second circle), you can see that small change is quite substantial at that point. Now, imagine that same choice 20 years out. Or 50 years. WOW!
Also notice what occurs when at the 1 year point, the individual makes another trajectory changing choice. Notice the difference in their original trajectory and the result of 2 small changes.
It is my desire that this gives you some hope. Hope for the trajectory of your future.
Hope that one small choice, one small change, can alter your life.
Hope that just because the results are not immediately noticeable doesn’t mean that the choice was wrong or that something is wrong with you.
You’ve never made a wrong choice because every choice you’ve made for your entire life brought you to where you are and who you are today.
Be grateful for your journey.
